Accessible Transportation
Did you know that transportation remains one of the five greatest needs of citizens with disabilities? Transportation is a key to independence and full community participation for people with disabilities. Many individuals with disabilities cannot utilize traditional transportation, which negatively impacts their independence and quality of life.
SIL offers accessible transportation with door-to-door service Sunday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be a senior or have a disability that limits access to transportation
- Must live in our services area
- Must have unmet transportation needs
- Must be willing to complete intake paperwork
- Must be able to ride independently or provide your own attendant
- Must be ready when driver arrives
To schedule a ride:
- Call 800-766-1968 or 573-874-1646 and ask for the transportation department.
- Scheduling is done on a first-come, first-serve basis.
- Although we cannot guarantee a ride, a 24-hour advance notice is necessary.
- Flexibility with scheduling increases opportunities for riders.
- Provide your name, date and time of appointment, pick-up and drop-off locations, telephone number and whether you use mobility devices.
- All passengers outside Columbia and Moberly city limits will be contacted approximately one hour before pick-up to verify the ride is still needed. Unanswered calls will result in a cancelled ride.
All SIL drivers are CPR/First Aid certified and have received training on Defensive Driving, Passenger Safety and Wheelchair Securement from MoDOT. SIL strictly hires individuals with a clear background screening via the Safety Registry and Missouri Casenet.
SIL does not provide transportation for emergency purposes (call 9-1-1). Drivers do not provide personal care (toileting, feeding, medication). Drivers do not carry money and cannot provide change. If your appointment changes, please call us so someone else can have a ride.
