Congratulations Pam McCormick!  Pam is the first recipient of the Direct Support Professionals Award.  Pam was nominated by Marleta Spry  for demonstrating the 9 DSP Code of Ethics.  

Pam has been a DSP for 4.5 years.  She works seven days a week for Marleta and is there rain or shine.  Pam walks in with a smile and a good attitude. Marleta shared “Pam treats me as an equal and with the utmost respect. She never judges me and they always discuss important issues openly. I trust her 100%. Pam fusses with my hair, she makes sure I look nice everyday.  She is a believer ‘if you look good you feel good’.  She makes my bleek life happy and full of hope. I honestly don’t know what I would do without her care & friendship.”

The Direct Support Professionals (DSP) Recognition Program is a joint effort between Services for Independent Living (SIL) and individuals who employ DSPs self-directing their own services in the Consumer Directed Services (CDS) program and use SIL as their financial management service (FMS) provider or be a DSP in SIL’s In-Home program.

The purpose of this program is to acknowledge the efforts of DSPs who “go the extra mile” in their support of people with disabilities, seniors, or veterans and to encourage others to strive for excellence in the profession.  There are monthly and quarterly awards available in our seven county service area of Audrain, Boone, Callaway, Cooper, Howard, Montgomery, and Randolph.

The recipient of the monthly award will receive a $50 gift card and the recipient of the quarterly award will receive a $100 gift card.

Awards are solely based upon the information provided via the nomination form.  The criteria used in the award process come directly from the nine values as outlined in the DSP Code of Ethics established by the National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals. Every nominee must have clear examples of at least three values to be considered for a monthly award.  Quarterly awards are selected from nominees who have demonstrated at least five values.

Additionally, nominee will have to have worked at least 90 days for the individual nominating them, the individual nominating the DSP has to currently be using SIL as the financial management service (FMS) provider or SIL In-Home program and for at least 90 days.

While nominations may be submitted at any time, only those received by the 5th of each month will be reviewed by the selection committee. (Any nominations received after the 5th will be held over for consideration the following month.)  Quarterly awards will be announced on or around January 5th, April 5th, July 5th, and October 5th.  All nominations not selected for award must be re-submitted for future consideration.
